Gender distribution in various sub-areas of linguistics

• June 2023: new data on gender ratios in current job searches (collected in April-May 2023)

• July 2015: It turns out that LSA publishes an annual report, which also tracks gender ratios. If everything works out right, there might soon be some information on gender ratios in Language publications and submission/acceptance rates for the LSA annual meeting.

• June 2015: updated the information on the proportion of women faculty, female authors in LI (20%), NLLT (43%), NALS (39%), S&P (36%) and Syntax (32%); female editors in various journals; female presenters at SALT and SuB

• September 23, 2012: I have finally added the information on the International Journal of American Linguistics that Keren Rice sent me half a year ago

• There's also some pretty old data for the less prestigious Journal of Linguistics (created January 29, 2006), which I hope to update soon.

Gender proportions at the CNRS

if you can't read French, here are the statistics for December 31, 2000:

• permanent personnel: 25,003, of which 10 565 women, i.e. 42.25 % (42.37% for 1991/12/31), of which
• researchers: 11 409, of which 3 462 femmes, i.e. 30.34 % (32.12% for 1991/12/31), of which
• research directors: 20.7%

In my lab, UMR 7023 (March 1, 2012):

• CNRS people: 9/15
• Paris 8 faculty: 19/26 (permanent members only)
